"An Uzi Up Your Liberal Nose"

SF Gate's Mark Morford reminds us all that the assault weapon ban is about to expire (Sept) and no one will stop it.  All hail the greatness that is the NRA!

Machine guns. Aren't they just the cutest things?
And isn't it just so sweet and fall-down uproarious how the NRA and all its knuckle-draggin' right-wing pals in the U.S. Senate are all cheering right this minute, as the much-loathed 10-year-old ban on assault weapons, the one outlawing Uzis and TEC-9 semiautomatics and AK-47s and all other way-cool manly guns that have no other purpose in this world than to annihilate crap at 200 rounds per minute, is about to expire?

NY Times Outrage

Thu May 20, 2004 at 08:30:24 AM PDT

This Cartoon by McCoy is outrageous to the point of making me sick.  Given the concerted, and successful, effort on the Right to have Ted Rall removed from the electronic NYTimes, I feel a similar outcry should be raised by all people of good conscience (Right and Left) against the publication of this kind of rubbish.

I did not see this addressed in other diaries; my apologies if it has been.

My letter to Mr. Okrent follows; please write one yourself--feel free to borrow what you like:

From this well-written GQ article on the Secretary of State:

His capitulation on Iraq may have secured his footing in the administration, but to keep that footing he must not overstep. He holds his dissent close to the vest, careful to appear loyal before the public while working his channels of dissent in private. His position in the cabinet, then, is more tenuous and less tenable than ever. In order to keep his power, he cannot seem to have it. This became apparent from the moment I hit my seat.
